Whom It May Concern:
husband and I recently took a stand-up comedy class, instructed by comedian,
Perry Kurtz. The class was offered through the Culver City Adult School in
Culver City, California. We arrived at the first session without a formal
commitment, but by break-time, were enticed to join.
teaching style is the perfect mix of formal instruction plus encouragement to
pull out what is funny in each of us. He presented some basic underpinnings of
what makes good comedy, but encouraged personal style from the get-go. He
prodded us to dig deeply to hone what is unique about each of us. As a painter
and a teacher in my other life, I appreciate that all the arts have
specific skills that can be taught, but which are meaningless without a strong
sense of personal expression. Perry gave us specific exercises to get started
and plenty of positive feedback to help us improve our acts.
husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5-session class. I would sign-up again in a
minute, but Perry is off to new adventures. I would highly recommend him to
others who want an opportunity to find their chuckle.
